One of my favorite parts about being a family photographer is getting to know all these amazing parents and kids, and getting to capture the bond they have with each other. I love seeing the natural interactions that you’d likely have in every day life, and not feeling like you have to be posed and looking at the camera for every shot. I enjoy going to locations that are a part of your story. For the Biafora clan, we decided to start early one morning at North Shore Park…a park and beach that is in their neighborhood and just a short car ride away. Things for their shoot were a little extra special though. Do you remember when I held mini sessions back in October and for every session purchased, I offered to donate a session to someone that has dealt with (or were currently dealing with) breast cancer? Well Lea Ann and her family were a fortunate recipient of one of those extra special sessions. She was diagnosed last year with breast cancer (even though she was not supposedly a high risk for diagnosis). After spending most of the year just barreling through the motions of the journey and not really talking about it, she decided that it was time to be a voice and share her story (and bald head) with everyone for their holiday cards. We had so much fun shooting in the early morning hours together, and we got some moments that I can’t help but smile at when I see them. Her 5 year old kiddos were the cutest! I hope that some of these images will help others dealing with a difficult journey with cancer, stop and count their blessings and cherish the emotional bonds they have with their loved ones. Below are some of my favorites from this session. Enjoy!
