When Megan told me about her and Gavin’s vision for their intimate wedding, she told me that they were looking for photography for their small wedding and dinner reception. She told me that she loved my style and the idea of their photos being more intimate, less cookie-cutter. She and Gavin had been together for over 5 years and had 2 small children. Most days, their lives revolve around being parents. So it was really important to them that their wedding day was focused on them as a couple. They didn’t want to get lost in the planning of a big wedding. Oh, girl, you are SPEAKING MY LANGUAGE! haha. There is just something that speaks to me with an intimate affair. I love how for these small weddings, I really get to connect with what makes the couple who they are. We also get to spend more time creating images that tell the story of their love. Don’t get me wrong, I still love all those detail photos and the party photos I take at larger scale weddings…but I may or may not cry a little inside when time with the bride and groom can sometimes get cut short because there’s a rigid timeline to make sure we get everything done. Intimate weddings and elopements tend to be more laid back and “go-with-the-flow” and it usually means we can make it more of a priority to get those bride and groom portraits that will be on your walls, in albums, and in picture frames for years to come.
Gavin and Megan chose to do their ceremony on the beaches of Honeymoon Island. We then proceeded to head back towards downtown Dunedin for dinner, drinks and cake in a small party room at Sea Sea Riders. I’m just going to throw it out here for you all to know…if you are ever looking for amazing food and service in Dunedin, Sea Sea’s is the way to go! I also loved that the bride and groom chose to take some moments to themselves to eat their delicious food in a corner booth near the bar – away from the party. I think having that moment alone to really relish in the day is something that every couple should think about. After some wonderful toasts, we walked over Edgewater Park to pass by the boats in the harbor and climb around the rocks for sunset photos. The happy-go-lucky nature of this couple was just so contagious and it shows so much in their photos. Thank you so much, Gavin and Megan, for letting me be a part of your special day! Below are some of my favorite images from their day. Enjoy!
